Super Secret Embroidery Project Revealed!

Several years ago the library I work at switched over to using glued in date due slips in the back of the book rather than the pocket card date due slips. However the library staff simply pasted in the new date due slips and many of the books still have the pockets and cards. Basically the cards get thrown out every time we check out a book and remember to pull the card.

Last month I realized that this is an amazingly huge waste of resources. I love the yellowed cards resplendent with stamps, pen scrawls, and penciled names. I began collecting the cards and thinking about what to make.

Then it hit me. Embroidery them and, ta-dah, you have a nerdtastic bookmark or a kicky piece of art for the books shelf!

This is my first embroidered card and the pattern comes from Jenny Hart's Sexy Librarians pattern.

There you go, expect a slew of these to be made in the next few weeks. Let me know what you think!

These are wonderous. Can you elaborate on the type of needle you use to stich through paper easily

I used a standard embroidery needle. I simply followed Jenny Hart's instructions for embroidering on paper (it is in her new book, Embroidered Effects). It really helps to poke holes -- where the needle will pass --prior to stitching!
