January -- Charles Dickens Month

A few folks have expressed interest in joining me in my Charles Dickens month in JanuaryCharles Dickens's Bicentennial celebration is happening in 2012 (his 200th birthday would have been on February 7th).  May I present to you, most humbly,

There is no amount of reading or required posting or mini-challenges and such.  I'm too busy and flighty to create a strict guidelines!  The premise is basic:  every Tuesday in January (there are 5 Tuesdays) post something about Charles Dickens.  It can be a book, short story, or film review.  It could be about his life.  It could even merely relate to his time period.  Basically just have something relevant about Charles Dickens in your blog post (heck, it could even be a rant about how much you hate Charles Dickens).  On his birthday, Tuesday 02/07 there will be a big wrap-up!

Every Tuesday I'll have my weekly Charles Dickens post, so be sure to leave me a comment on that week's post with your URL.  Here is the cool part:  Every time you post a comment leaving a URL back to your Charles Dickensy-goodness you'll be entered in my Charles Dickens giveaway!!!  After February 7th,  I'll randomly draw a winner and you will get a Dickensian-themed prize.  Depending on my finances we may have a couple of winners.  The only stipulation is that your blog posts MUST actually be related to Charles Dickens.  More on the giveaway at a later date.  I have several ideas in mind.  To break it down simply, if you post each of the 5 Tuesdays in January and the Tuesday in February you will be entered into the drawing 6 times.  If you blog about Ol' Charlie more and add it to the Mr. Linky then you will be entered into my giveaway for each additional post.  February 7th is the cut-off day for eligibility in the drawing.

Interested?  Let me know if you'd like to participate so I can add your blog to my feed-reader!

EDIT: Dang Mr. Linky is giving me fits! Just add leave a comment here and I'll add you to the list. I'll post a list of all the participants at the beginning of the year.

I have big plans for Charles Dickens month! Happy Reading!

I've been meaning to get around to reading all of Dickens' novels (I've only read two, the shame) so this could be the perfect opportunity to get started. Put me down as a maybe for now :)

I don't blog, but will read along and comment if possible. I too love Dickens...so far I have 6 books under my belt. I think it is a great idea to use his 200th birthday to encourage me to read a couple more!

You know, I still have a strange, English-majorly, wish to find a Dickens book I can love like Andi loves Great Expectations. I did like GE, but I want all out love affair here. I know I can't read every book he read in January (I'd probably be ready to pluck out ye ole eyeballs) but I think I'll make it my mission to at least try each one until one (hopefully) sticks. Does that work? lol

I was already planning on a more classic reading year next year, so this fits in just perfect!

I'll give it a go. Even if I posted one book on Dickens in the entire month. Thanks for hosting!

Thanks for this challenge, I plan to read at least one of his latest biography. Emma

I haven't had much time to read lately, but I count Dickens among my favorite writers so I have to give this a go :)
Even if, like JoV, I'll end up posting a single post the entire month.

Having a Dickens month in 2012 is a great idea, thank you for doing this :)

I think someone might be hosting a Dickens Event in February too. I'd already signed up for Allie's Shakespeare Month in January, so I'm devoting Feb to Dickens. Wish I could have joined! Thanks for hosting. :-)

I've been planning on starting another Dickens, that sounds perfect! I'll probably read Our Mutual Friend which should take the entire month, which is perfect. Of course if I'm behind I can rant or gush about his other works, depending on my mood. I look forward to the other posts.

After reading and adoring Great Expectations I can't help joining this!
January is already a bit busy because of Allie's Shakespeare Reading Month, but I just have this wonderful feeling that there is so much more about Dickens waiting for me :)
I'm looking forward to January.
By the way, I absolutely love your whole blog!

Hi-- I left a link a month or so ago, but my January is busier than I expected so I won't be able participate.

Great challenge! I'll be aiming to read Dickens for the whole of January and see how I get on... I think I'm going to read Bleak House, Great Expectations, Nicholas Nickleby, A Tale of Two Cities and Hard Times. WOW! Even I'LL be impressed with myself if I do it! Thanks for hosting :)

Fun! I'm looking forward to participating, even if I don't manage to post something every week.

Please sign me up also-I hope to read at least A Tale of Two Cities and Great Expectations in January-I read all of the novels years ago and am looking forward to lots of Dickens in the book blog world soon!

Luckily I put Little Dorrit in my TBR Dare pile for the first three months of 2012. I haven't had much success with CD in the past so I am looking forward to changing that. I won't be able to post on Tuesdays in January, but I do hope to have LD read by 2/7 so I can post my review that day.

I would love to do this challenge but I don't know how to post anything. I create a very basic blog called littlechimpsbookblog.blogspot.com but don't know how to use it in the case of something like this. Can you help get me started?
