Here I am blogging from my phone while I wait for the thrift store to open. Please forgive any and all autocorrect and spelling mistakes of embarrassment.
I wanted to briefly update everyone on a few bookish pursuits underway.
-- I've dropped out of my Proust readalong. It was something I wanted to do because I felt like I should and i actually didn't really want to read it. I may pick it up another year, but reading Proust while dealing with a newborn and a lack of sleep seems like a disaster waiting to happen.
-- I am really enjoying my reading right now. I'm about half-way through Alison Weir's The Wars of the Roses and I'm really enjoying it. I plan on following this book up with her book The Princes in the Tower at some point this year. I also started The Law and the Lady yesterday on my Kindle.
-- The Kindle is really going to help with my next big project. All my book-nerd idols are undertaking projects to read the works of a single literary giant. I've seen the authors Zola, Dickens, Gaskell, Hardy, Cather and others. I thought this was a great idea. I picked a classic author I am unfamiliar with: Anthony Trollope. I don't know why I haven't picked up a Trollope novel yet; perhaps because there are so many. Dude wrote about 48 novels plus short stories and non-fiction. I've set the goal of reading 50 works by and about him in the next 10 years. I mostly want to focus on the novels and learning about Trollope's life. I plan on starting out with the Barset novels and going from there. Luckily nearly every Trollope novel is available for free or cheap on my Kindle. Sweet.
-- Speaking of cheap books; my nesting is manifesting as a rabid need to collect thrifted children's books. I cannot explain it. I'm getting a pretty good collection; I have picture book classics like Where the Wild Things Are and literary classics like The Phantom Tollbooth and The Wind in the Willows. Of course I've thrifted kid's lit before, but not with this time consuming, dogged determination.
-- I've also recently thrift a Literary Trivial Pursuit game. It was $3. Now I just need to wrangle up some booknerds to play it with me. I'm thinking of having some friends over for a non-babyshower, pre-baby night of Thai food and nerding.
Well, I think that is all for now. Time to go thrift baby sweaters and books!

I think Trollope is a great pick! Especially the Barset novels: I can see them working well even with a newborn. They're cosy and fun and not terribly taxing on the reader. ;)
Of course, now I want a literary giant of my very own.
All the good things! I'm so glad you're diggin' your Kindle. I'm also glad I recently found my Nook after a few days of misplacement. I freaked. A lot. lol
I love love love reading on my Kindle. I actually prefer it to regular books, especially from the library. I like to read leisurely (plus, I work five part-time jobs) so Kindle books are the way to go. The library doesn't always allow for renewals.
