Mom Duty Calls

This morning I woke up and showered for work, I went to wake up the kid and she was groggy and sneezy and complaining that her head hurt. "But you are going to the Sprayground today at day camp" I coaxed. "I don't care," replied the kid, "I don't feel like playing in the water." Obviously I had a sick child on my hands. I gave her some allergy meds and put her back to bed and then called into work.

As luck would have it, the little stinker declared at 10:50 a.m. that she was ready to go to camp. By now the camp had departed for field trip fun and I had already bothered to stay home. I hate missing work. I'm always secretly paranoid that they will can my ass -- even though I just had a stellar annual review and I rated as "exceeds expectations" on my attendance.

So what did I do today? Behold:
  • cleaned the kitchen
  • tweezed my eyebrows
  • made a homemade oatmeal honey face masque and let Hope smear the goo on my face (She loved that)!
  • yelled at the kid to clean her room (to no avail)
  • straightened the house
  • took the kid to a dr. appt.
  • drank a large iced vanilla latte
  • read about 50 pages of A Tale of Two Cities
  • made homemade chicken cheesy casserole that Hope loves
  • cleaned the kitchen again
  • played with the cat
  • read emails
  • consumed 2 diet cokes
  • talked to Daena on the phone

Now the kid is tucked in bed and ready for camp tomorrow. I'm dreading work because I need to slap together 2 phenomenal displays, finish a publication, and compile fall stats for interlibrary loan.

I will be freebasing coffee tomorrow; you've been warned.

Now, for Nerd Humor:

Ah, the cartoon justifies my habit of calling the library "the crack house."

Go super mom! You got lots done today. I wish I could say the same.

Ha! That cartoon makes me think of how I tell people I'm "jonesing" for a new book!
