Teaser Tuesday

Teaser Tuesdays is a weekly bookish meme, hosted by MizB of Should Be Reading. Anyone can play along! Just do the following:

  • Grab your current read
  • Open to a random page
  • Share two (2) “teaser” sentences from somewhere on that page
  • BE CAREFUL NOT TO INCLUDE SPOILERS! (make sure that what you share doesn’t give too much away! You don’t want to ruin the book for others!)
  • Share the title & author, too, so that other TT participants can add the book to their TBR Lists if they like your teasers!
My teasers

from The Death of the Moth and other Essays by Virginia Woolf:
"It is impossible that one should not see pictures; because if my father was a blacksmith and yours was a peer of the realm, we must needs be pictures to each other.  We cannot possibly break out of the frame of the picture by speaking natural words."  (from "Three Pictures" page 12)
from The Waves by Virginia Woolf:
"'He is dead,' said Neville.  'He fell.'" (page 151)
from American Gothic Tales edited by Joyce Carol Oates:
"'The Reach was wider in those day,' Stella Flanders told her great-grand-children in the last summer of her life, the summer before she began to see ghosts.  The children looked at her with wide, silent eyes, and her son, Alden turned from his seat on the porch where he was whittling.'"  (from "The Reach" by Stephen King, page 378)
from The Swan Thieves by Elizabeth Kostova:
" October 30, 1877:  Mon cher oncle: I am writing you this morning to express all our thanks for your presence yesterday evening and for the pleasure you brought.  Thank you also for your encouraging words about my drawings, which I wouldn't have wanted to show you had my father-in-law and Yves not insited."  (page 103)
