Teaser Tuesday

Teaser Tuesdays is a weekly bookish meme, hosted by MizB of Should Be Reading. Anyone can play along! Just do the following:

  • Grab your current read
  • Open to a random page
  • Share two (2) “teaser” sentences from somewhere on that page
  • BE CAREFUL NOT TO INCLUDE SPOILERS! (make sure that what you share doesn’t give too much away! You don’t want to ruin the book for others!)
  • Share the title & author, too, so that other TT participants can add the book to their TBR Lists if they like your teasers!
My teasers

from Smoke and Mirrors by Neil Gaiman:
"A couple of weeks after his return home Ben posted his annotated copy of A Walking Tour of the British Coastline to the author, care of her publisher, with an extensive letter containing a number of helpful suggestions for future editions.  He also asked the author from his guidebook, to set his mind at rest; but he was secretly relieved, as the days turned into months, and the months turned into years and then into decades, that she never replied." (from "Shoggoth's Old Peculiar", page 155)
from The Priory by Dorothy Whipple:
"They parted.  Nicholas crossed the hall to the Major's room and Christine ran half-way up the stairs, where she stood poised with her hand at her heart, her eyes on the hall.  Penelope, leaning over the nursery banisters, looked down at her.  Then, in tears, she turned away.  It would never be the same now.  Never the same again."  (page 204)
from The Count of Monte Cristo by Alexandre Dumas:
"As soon as Barrois had left the room, Noirtier looked at Valentine with that singular expression which conveyed so much deep meaning.  The young girl understood the look, and so did Villefort, for his countenance became clouded and he knitted his eyebrows angrily.  He took a seat and quietly awaited the arrival of the notary."  (page 651)

I do love a Neil Gaiman story...but I don't remember that particular scene. I'll have to re-read (not unhappy about that at all). Nice teasers! If you'd like, you can check out mine here.

I haven't read that Neil Gaiman book yet. Nice teaser from it though. And I agree with Andi, nice cover :)
