Reading, Sore Butts, Baking, and Pregnancy ADD

... things are a bit off.  Wonderful, but slightly nutty.... sort of like a nice whole grain bread.  Let's recap this weekend:

  1. I began re-re-re-reading To Kill a Mockingbird for Heather's readalong.  The last time I read this novel was when Hope was an infant (so, 10 years ago).  Today I'm supposed to post something well-thought out about the first 8 chapters and I've got nothin'.  Basically, in these first chapters we meet Atticus, Jem, Scout, several of the townspeople, and Boo Radley (in a fashion).  I love the descriptions of Southern summer and I'm reminded why I adore Scout:  she is so much like me at that age.  Scout is unabashedly a tomboy with a love of reading.  Still, these thoughts lack the depth I'm supposed have for a readalong post.  Speaking of posting on books read...
  2. .... I will not have my Classics Circuit post on Crime and Punishment tomorrow.  I hope to have it up by the weekend, but I'm still less than 200 pages into the book.  It is a thought provoking read, but my reading has suffered a bit because I have injured my bum....
  3. .... okay, more like my tailbone and lower back.  Baby Atticus is hanging out on a nerve(s).  I woke up Sunday morning to lower back spasms, throbbing butt muscles, shooting pain in my legs.  The only comfortable reading position I can find involves me on the floor, couch, or bed on all fours with my butt waving way up in the air and my chin on a pillow.  It takes all the pressure off my back and tailbone, but looks ridiculous.  Sam feels the need to smack my hovering ass every time he walks by because "its out there" and Hope keeps making jokes about keeping cans of beans away from me so I won't decimate the family.  So, yeah, this has impacted my reading negatively.  This is bad because I have 5 billion books to read and I went to the library the day before yesterday.....
  4. ... but luckily at the library I mostly checked out cookbooks.  I've made granola and bread and am planning on whipping up some Earl Grey tea cookies for work tomorrow.  That is if I remember to leave the butter on the counter to warm.  'Cause guess what?
  5. ....I have some sort of pregnancy ADD.  Today I opened up the passenger side door to put in various bags.  Then I waddled to the driver's side, crawled in, buckled, changed the radio station, put the car in reverse, and realized the passenger door was WIDE OPEN.  I've also tried looking for where I put my cell phone while I was ON THE PHONE.
All in all, my weekend has been nutty.  Let's hope the reading perks up, the butt quits hurting, I bake some cookies, and I remember to wear clothes to work tomorrow.

Considering it's just the first few paragraphs, I think that is in-depth enough! I think we're all in agreement, Scout MAKES the book. She's the hook, everything else is just candy.

I'm sorry to hear about yer bum! Having a hurt bum on top of being pregnancy just sounds horrible. I hope it gets better soon!

And surely you remember PREGNANCY BRAIN! We ALL get like that. It's totally normal, although I have to warn you, after number 2, it doesn't really go away. LOL

I totally agree with you on Scout, she is exactly like me when I was that age as well. I had some trouble coming up with a fairly coherent set of ideas on To Kill a Mockingbird today as well. I'm interested to see what you think of Crime and Punishment. I read it a few years ago and I really, really hated it. A lot of of people love it though, I just couldn't get into it.

This post made my day.

Yep, still giggling!

Hope your bum gets better ( I imagine having it hit when the hubby walks by isn't helping! )

Wow, okay, I don't know what I was on yesterday, but I totally meant first few CHAPTERS, not paragraphs! LOL

I hope you're feeling better today!

I'm lauging out loud at the pregnancy ADD (pregnant brain 'round my house), because now I actually know how that goes!!! I didn't look for the cell phone while I was on it, but I did pretty much everything else.

Take care of that bum!

surprisingly my butt just hurt on Sunday and a wee bit on Monday. Atticus rolled over and I felt suddenly better. I can even get off the toilet without Sam being on call in case I can't get up!
