Readathon: Hour 12

First off, the mid-event meme!
Mid-Event Survey:

1. What are you reading right now? I'm in the middle of a gripping novella in Le Fanu's In a Glass Darkly entitled "The Room in the Dragon Volant."  I have no idea what is going on except that everyone is creepy and I can trust not a single character.

2. How many books have you read so far? I haven't completed any books, but then again that wasn't really my goal.  I've read widely in two books and started an audio book.

3. What book are you most looking forward to for the second half of the Read-a-thon? I saved some graphic novels for near the end of readathon, I'm looking forward to those.

4. Did you have to make any special arrangements to free up your whole day? Nope.  There was no soccer this weekend so my daughter was already planning a long weekend at Grandma's.  Everything seemed to simply fall into place.

5. Have you had many interruptions? How did you deal with those? Some.  I pee every hour since Atticus thinks my bladder is a squeeze toy.  And it took me an hour and a half to cheer as opposed to one hour.  Little breaks keep me fresh and relishing my reading.

6. What surprises you most about the Read-a-thon, so far? IT GOES BY SO QUICKLY!!!

7. Do you have any suggestions for how to improve the Read-a-thon next year? I had a difficult time cheering.  Some blogs were in other languages, or folks weren't participating so there was nothing to cheer for, I ran into one blog I didn't click on because it was for "mature readers" and I had problems commenting on several blogs.  Livejournal was frustrating and so were the word verifications.  Perhaps next year we could pair up cheerleaders with blog hosts (i.e. wordpress folks cheer wordpress folks, etc....)

8. What would you do differently, as a Reader or a Cheerleader, if you were to do this again next year? I don't know.  I think things are going pretty well thus far excepting the cheering issues.

9. Are you getting tired yet? A bit.  But I'm taking time to close my eyes here and there.

10. Do you have any tips for other Readers or Cheerleaders, something you think is working well for you that others may not have discovered? Not reading for more than an hour and a half straight.  Listen to an audio book or do something to let the eyes rest!

So what all have I done since hour 7?

  • rearranged my bookshelves and pulled out a few books to donate

  • listened to the first disc of Muriel Spark's Aiding and Abetting

  • ate dinner (frozen pizza, grapes, a few crackers with cheese)

  • snapped pics of my "reading pals"

  • cheered for an hour and a half

Here are my stats:

  • Title of book(s) read since last update:The Sunne in Splendour by Sharon Kay Penman and In a Glass Darkly by Sheridan Le Fanu

  • Number of books read since you started: currently working on two print books and one audio

  • Pages read since last update: 76 plus one hour of audio

  • Running total of pages read since you started: 215 plus one hour of audio

  • Amount of time spent reading since last update: 1 hour of audio plus 1 hour and a half reading.

  • Running total of time spent reading since you started: 5 hours of print, plus 1 hour of audio

  • Mini-challenges completed: Two

  • Other participants you’ve visited: I visited close to 40 blogs (some cheer assigned and some friends) during my cheertime.

  • Prize you’ve won: zip

Now my plans are to visit a few bloggy friends and eat some Pumpkin Pie Ice Cream.  Then I plan on spending the next few hours reading (Le Fanu and Penman).  I'll do an update in a bit and then sleep for a bit.  My challenge ends at 8 a.m., so I'll be up at 5:30 or 6 to read a bit longer.

I have never listened to an audio book during a read-a-thon, but think I'll try that next time!

Enjoy the rest of the read-a-thon!
