John James the Owl is posing with my overly ambitious September reading pile. There are seven books here and my goal is to read at least five of them. I've started with a non-fiction read that I may count for my R.I.P challenge; The Devil in the White City. I also have several other books for R.I.P, The Hound of Baskervilles, The House at Riverton, and The Dark Clue. Next is Green Darkness and Ex-Libris for some kick-ass historical fiction. Finally, I want to start Little Dorrit which will be my big classic read for the autumn.
I've become a bit of a recluse lately, work has been so hectic (1 library, 5 librarians, 2 assistants, and 86 hours of service a week) that I find myself craving huge mugs of coffee, silence, dripping rain, and thick books. Seriously, I don't answer my phone anymore; Facebook me and I'll contact you when I emerge from my solitude refreshed and rejuvenated.
However I will be busy this weekend. A casual family cookout on Saturday, friends over for dinner on Sunday, and a larger family cookout on Monday. Expect many baking posts in the near future. Of course, this weekend of joviality will only commence if we all evade the swine flu. Fingers crossed, folks.
