Teaser Tuesday

Teaser Tuesdays is a weekly bookish meme, hosted by MizB of Should Be Reading. Anyone can play along! Just do the following:
  • Grab your current read
  • Open to a random page
  • Share two (2) “teaser” sentences from somewhere on that page
  • BE CAREFUL NOT TO INCLUDE SPOILERS! (make sure that what you share doesn’t give too much away! You don’t want to ruin the book for others!)
  • Share the title & author, too, so that other TT participants can add the book to their TBR Lists if they like your teasers!
My teasers

From American Gothic Tales edited by Joyce Carol Oates:
"The bridge became more than ever an object of superstitious awe; and that may be the reason why the road has been altered of late years, so as to approach the church by the border of the millpond. The schoolhouse being deserted soon fell to decay, and was reported to be haunted by the ghost of the unfortunate pedagogue and the plowboy, loitering homeward of a still summer evening, has often fancied his voice at a distance, chanting a melancholy psalm tune among the tranquil solitudes of Sleepy Hollow."  ("The Legend of Sleepy Hollow" by Washington Irving, pg. 44)
From Wuthering Heights by Emily Bronte:
"She would not hear of staying a second longer: in truth, I felt rather disposed to defer the sequel of her narrative myself.  And now that she is vanished to her rest, and I have meditated for another hour or two, I shall summon courage to go also, in spite of aching laziness of head and limbs."  (Chapter 9, pg 91)

Good combination! I love to read books in pairs. I've read Wuthering Heights twice so far, once when I was 17, once about ten years later, and had a completely different impression of the book second time around. First time I thought Cathy & Heathcliff had the love of all time, second time I thought they were beyond immature. But I was glad I'd read it first as a teenager so I could enjoy it as a love story before seeing it more critically.

plus a video of the hunt for the perfect photo for the book's cover -- fun!
