Okay... so I didn't update the blog yesterday as promised. I feel that
weird blog frustration where it feels like one. more. task. Time for a
bit longer of a break.
I don't think there will be much
updating going on this week and I'm really feeling the pressure right
now. The latter half of my vacation was a disaster.
On
Wednesday night -- after a day of running errands and a dinner out with
coworkers -- I was knitting and watching Walking Dead with Sam. We
heard Atticus coughing. Sam got up to check on him and what he found
was Atticus with a high fever and having a seizure. He brought him in
the living room and I held Atticus while Sam called 911. Atticus was
gray, his eyes were rolled back in his head, his mouth was foamy, and he
was convulsing uncontrollably. After the seizure he was weird and
lethargic and unresponsive for 45 minutes. I rode with him in the
ambulance to the hospital where he endured a catheter, lung x-ray, IV,
blood tests, and many rectal temp readings. We left there around 3 am
with a diagnosis of viral pneumonia. He had another seizure from a
sudden high fever on Thursday morning. Another ambulance ride. Another
day in the hospital and we didn't get home until 5. While there we had
more tests and a CT scan.
Friday we took him to the
pediatrician and she said it was just a virus. His fever was gone and
he was weak but cheerful. I'm so glad it wasn't pneumonia. So I spent
Wednesday night through Friday morning just holding Atticus and nursing
him like a newborn. He didn't want Sam or Hope. Just mama. I didn't
shower until Thursday night after he went to bed. I held him and ate
pizza. I held him and read my email. I held him and watched loads of
Doctor Who. And occasionally I would remember that I was pregnant and
should have some water or a vitamin or a nap or a sandwich, but mostly
it was only because Sam was concerned. My back ached, my arms ached, my
boobs really ached, but I didn't care.
Friday afternoon was
spent doing laundry and cleaning the kitchen. Saturday was spent
running a few errands and cuddling with the kids some more. Sunday was
cleaning and then more errands. Then work Monday and prepping for a
ginormous Halloween / combined birthday party for the kids. And my fall
allergies are acting up. And I feel my introvert self aching to be
quiet, alone, and readerly.
So, blog friends, I'm skipping out again until Sunday. Peace.

Poor gal. That had to be incredibly stressful. I'm glad that he's come out of it fine but I can definitely understand your need for some quiet time now! Rest up and take care.
