Making Resolutions -- literally

Today as I was stitching flowers for my wedding bouquet.  I was thinking that I really need to treat all my other hobbies the same as my reading.  Reading will always be number one, but it might be nice to have some plans and goals in the other areas in my life:  embroidery, crochet and knitting, and baking.  I seem to never finish a project in a timely matter and this is for several reasons 1).  Reading is my favorite, 2).  I start too many projects at once, 3).  I get bored easily, 4).  perfectionism, which is directly linking to my being cheap.  I don't do things if I think I will "mess it up" and "waste" materials.

So, I'm going to establish some general goals that may help me get my butt in gear.

Things to Make Goals for 2010
  • Embroider 12 projects, start to finish
  • Begin holiday crafting in October (I'm slow!)
  • Crochet 3 projects, start to finish
  • Knit 3 projects, start to finish
  • Sew 3 items -- and finally conquer that sewing machine fear -- start to finish
  • Make Thursday a "Thursday Thread" day and show everything I'm working on.
  • Create 7 non-thread things.  This can include paper projects, household things, etc.
  • Bake 52 things this year.  This includes:  muffins, breads, cakes, cookies, candy, etc.
  • Have a more patient attitude and let Hope help me more with baking and crafting.
That seems like a manageable amount!  I really feel bad about the last one.  I do love baking and making things with Hope but it takes a huge amount of patience.  We have a VERY small kitchen, Hope tends to not pay attention, and we are both stubborn as hell.

How about the rest of you?  Any creative goals for 2010?

I haven't posted about this on my blog, but I'd really like to get to all of my sewing projects. I have a beautiful new sewing machine and I really need to get started on the projects that I've already made patterns for and alterations that I've already set aside and pinned. A day a month in the sewing room seems like it'd do the trick. I just need to sit down... and sew.

I love that you have so many hobbies! We seem to have quite a few in common. I crochet and sew. I also paint (a LOT!) and sketch.

I think those are excellent resolutions. And very manageable.

I'd like to do more sewing this year myself. I really enjoy it, but I don't have enough space to really lay out the sewing...

I have the SAME experience with crafting, down to your several reasons projects take awhile. So making specific goals sounds great! I sewed quite a bit in 2008, but right now it just hurts my neck too much. I'm hoping I get a lot healthier soon so I can pick it up again. :)

I think I will blog about my crafty aspirations, but I just wanted to say that I LOVE how you're making your own bouquet. Please take pictures... and I can't believe it's happening so soon!
