Teaser Tuesday: The Over the Top Gothic Edition

Teaser Tuesdays is a weekly bookish meme, hosted by MizB of Should Be Reading. Anyone can play along! Just do the following:
  • Grab your current read
  • Open to a random page
  • Share two (2) “teaser” sentences from somewhere on that page
  • BE CAREFUL NOT TO INCLUDE SPOILERS! (make sure that what you share doesn’t give too much away! You don’t want to ruin the book for others!)
  • Share the title & author, too, so that other TT participants can add the book to their TBR Lists if they like your teasers!
from Clermont by Regina Maria Roche:
"It was not any apprehension of danger however which agitated the soul of Madeline, it was the agony of thinking that de Sevignie was the sad and solitary mourner to whose sweet and melancholy strains she had been listening; for in the air she heard she perfectly recollected one she had taught him during his visit at her father's house; and she wished to avoid his presence, least she should betray the emotions a knowledge of this dejection had inspired.  Again she pressed for Olivia to depart; who, in compliance with her wishes was moving from the spot, when the nurse hastily exclaimed, 'Stop, Mam'selle, stop, he's coming now, for there's his dog.'"  (pg. 67)

I feel like some more thunderstorms, swooning, and blanched cheeks are on the horizon.  Ha!  I'm reading this one for The Classics Circuit and will post my review on 10/23, don't forget to check back.
